Information about using Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) with Apps 4 EFL

Apps 4 EFL utilizes the Web Speech API which is currently only supported by Google Chrome on desktop PCs (Mac/Windows) and Mobile Chrome on Android devices.
Encuiate clearly for best recognition results on any device. Use a headset mounted microphone for best recognition results on desktop computers.
Please note that ASR is not perfect, and may fail to recognize certain utterances even when clearly pronounced by native English speakers. Because ASR uses contextual clues to transcribe speech, phrases and sentences are generally recognized better than single words.

Mobile users

Android

If you are using an Android device, you need to download and install Mobile Chrome. Once you have done so, access Vocaylzer through Chrome, choose a resource, and click the "Speak" button to speak your answer. Click the "Stop" button after you have finished speaking.

iOS

Vocaylzer is not currently supported on iOS devices.

Desktop users

Google Chrome is the only desktop browser to have fully implemented the Web Speech API at this time. Once you have downloaded and installed Google Chrome, access Vocalyzer and click the "Speak" button to speak your answer. Click the "Stop" button after you have finished speaking.

You must give Google Chrome permission to access your microphone the first time you do a Vocalyzer activity.
